When we created Coyne Medical we were keen from the outset to try and be more than a GP Surgery. We wanted to create a clinic that was truly integrated into and benefited the community that we live in.  It is with this aim in mind that we are launching our first events at Coyne Medical. We will be hosting monthly free baby first aid classes at our GP Surgery in Fulham starting on 24th and 25th of May. The event is not just to help teach local parents first aid for babies but also to raise some awareness and money for one of our favourite local charities, Borne.

What Is The Class For?

The classes are to teach parents, grandparents and those who look after children life-saving skills. You will learn what to do in an emergency such as when a child stops breathing and also in choking situations. We will teach you how to use the correct techniques so that you will feel confident in what to do in case the worst happens.

The classes will be at our clinic just a stones’ throw from Parsons Green and you will be taught by our Doctors. Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper both have experience in managing emergency situations both in hospital Paediatrics and in Primary Care. Both Dr Coyne and Dr Hooper have postgraduate diplomas in Child Health. In addition, Dr Coyne regularly deals with emergency situations in his role as pitch-side doctor for the Irish Exiles.

Who Can Come?

The class is for parents but anyone who looks after young children can come. We would be delighted if both parents can come along, just make sure you book a ticket for each person attending. Number will be limited as we will keep the classes small so that we can make sure you have a chance to practice and we can check your technique. If you have a little baby please feel free to bring them with you. Older children may get a little bored and be a bit distracting so it may be best not to take older children.

About Borne

We are offering our classes as a gift to you. However, if you would like to thank us we would be delighted if you could donate to a brilliant local charity Borne. In the UK alone 1 in 10 babies is born too soon. Premature birth is responsible for 70% of death and disability in new-born babies. Borne aims to prevent death and disability in pregnancy and childbirth. The charity was founded by a group of parents, Consultant Obstetrician Prof. Mark Johnson and colleagues at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital. Dr Coyne and Dr Hooper, the husband and wife team who founded Coyne Medical are parents who benefitted from the wonderful skills of the doctors and nurses at Chelsea and Westminster. We wanted to say thank you and we hope you do too.
